IMPLANT DENTURES FOR CAMBRIDGE, WATERLOO AND KITCHENER

Traditional dentures rest on the gums and may slip when you eat, speak or laugh. Implant-retained dentures are securely attached to the underlying bone and thus, feel and function much more like natural teeth. If you're looking for a modern alternative to traditional dentures, come talk to us! We fabricate implant dentures for Cambridge, Waterloo and Kitchener. Our patients tell us that implant-retained dentures give them a degree of comfort and confidence that they did not have before.

SUITABLE FOR PATIENTS OF ALL AGES

The implant part of implant-retained dentures are titanium posts which are surgically placed in your jawbone. These posts actually fuse with the bone, usually over the course of a few months. The top of these posts, which remain at the surface of the gums, can then be attached to special attachments on your dentures. Your dentures will feel more secure and you'll be able to eat the fresh, crisp foods you love with no fear of the dentures moving.

Patients who are missing teeth but do have a strong enough jawbone to support implants are ideal candidates for implant-retained dentures. If needed, bone grafts can be used to build up your jawbone, which will require some additional surgery and recovery time. We have successfully fitted implant-retained dentures for patients ranging in age from their teens to their golden years.

These dentures can be fabricated for the upper or lower jaw, but they're typically used on the lower jaw because lower dentures are more prone to slippage.

TYPES OF IMPLANT-RETAINED DENTURES

At least 2 dental implants are needed to support your dentures. After the initial implant surgery, you're given 3 to 6 months to heal and allow the implants to integrate with your jawbone. Your dentures will then be fitted in another procedure. There are different types of implant overdentures, including:

  • Locator Attachments: These attachments are removable and require 2 to 4 implants. A male attachment screwed into the implant snaps into the female attachment in the denture.

  • Bar Retained: This type of denture uses a thin metal bar that is attached to 2 to 5 implants. Your denture will fit over the bar and be held in place by clips, locators, or ball attachments.

  • Screw Retained: These dentures are not removable and require at least 4 implants. They're held in place by screws and give you the feeling of natural teeth.
